Artist of the Week – Thompson Square!

Image

This choice was a no-brainer. Everyone knows how much I Love Love Love Thompson Square and I just got word that they are coming here! To my hometown Orangevale, Ca for the Pow-Wow Days Carnival May 18th. I am beyond excited!

Thompson Square is a husband and wife Country Music Duo. In 2010 they were signed to Stoney Creek Records releasing the singles “Let’s Fight” and “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” the same year. Their 2nd single “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not”, released July 12, 2010, was the duo’s first #1 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart. T2’s first album, Thompson Square, was released Feb 8th, 2011. The Recording Industry Association of America certified this album double-platinum. It was the 2nd Country Music Album I had bought the day it came out. Not long after the album was released their 3rd single “I Got You” hit Country Radio but peaked at #8 on the CM charts.

In 2011, T2 won 3 awards and the American Country Awards in Las Vegas, NV. They were nominated for 7 Awards that night including Single by Duo/Group, Single by Breakthrough Artist and Music Video by New Artist which they won with “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not“. They were up against some tough competition so it was a great honor to win even 3 of 7 awards. They were also nominated for 2 CMT awards, 2 CMA awards and an American Music award the same year.

Thompson Square’s 4th single  “Glass“, released Jan 30th, 2012, only reached #15 on the charts. Personally I think both of those singles should have made it to #1 but I am not in charge of everything.

“Glass” is the perfect relationship song if you’re not sure how you two will work out. It’s still a love song but it’s more of a ‘let’s give this a shot’ kinda song. Although not all of these songs made it to #1, they still were top 20 hits.

On April 1st, 2012 Keifer and Shawna Thompson won Vocal Duo of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. The same year they were up for 2 Grammy’s, 3 CMT awards including winning Duo Video of the Year for “I Got You”, and 2 CMA’s including winning Vocal Duo of the year.

The end of 2012 the Vocal Duo of the Year released their 5th single ”If I Didn’t Have You“. It hit #1 on Country Airplay Charts in May of last year, 2013. S & K Thompson’s 2nd album Just Feels Good was released March 23, 2013. The 2nd single from that album “Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About” is what really made this Duo a force to be reckoned with. The single reached #4 on Country Airplay charts bringing them their 4th top 10 hit.

Other than their crazy music success, their relationship is something to strive for. I hear a lot of woman say they want relationships and marriages like that of Thompson Square. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t one of those women.

American Idol

American Idol

Well my plan for an Idol post has been pushed up. Today will be the last time I watch this Seasons AI until maybe the finale. Dexter Roberts went home over Jessica Meuse. It’s not that her voice is bad it’s just her attitude during Hollywood week rubbed me the wrong way. All season I said I would stop watching if he went home and he did so I am. The top 3 now should be Caleb Johnson, C.J. Harris and Jena Irene.

Sad to say bye to Dexter! He will go far!

Artists of the week – The Band Perry

Image

The Band Perry won The ACM Group of the Year 2014!!!

Interesting fact: The Band Perry are brothers Reid and Neil Perry and sister Kimberly Perry!

Image

It is pretty unique to have a group of three siblings who are equally talented and interested in being musicians. Not only can they sing and play instruments but they write songs as well. Their first single from their self-titled debut album “Hip to my Heart” was written by the trio and Brett Beavers which landed at number 20 on the country music charts.

Their next single “If I Die Young” Kimberly wrote completely on her own and the song hit number 1 on country music charts and number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100! For artists who were just recently signed to Republic Nashville, this showed their amazing potential! They were going places as FAST! Their next three singles “You Lie“, “All Your Life” and “Postcard from Paris” hit numbers 2, 1, and 6 on the country charts. The entire album sold over 1 million copies.

Image

Their next album Poineer was released April 2nd of last year. So far there are four singles off this album. “Better Dig Two” #1, “Done” #1, “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely” #2 and “Chainsaw” #20 all were hits on the US Country Airplay chart. The newest single “Chainsaw was just released last month on March 3rd.

Not only is The Band Perry uniquely talented but they have so much heart. They offered to cover the burial expenses for 9 people, a mother and 8 of her children, killed in an accidental house fire in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Also, they are paying for the family members’ hotel expenses while the father and only surviving daughter are in Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in Nashville, TN being treated for burns.

How could anyone not love them?

The ACM’s Group of the Year!

Nashville stars Lennon and Maisy Stella

Image

I am so thankful for the show Nashville! It has provided me so many great artists to listen to and watch do what they love doing. If it wasn’t for this show I don’t think I would have heard of Lennon(14) and Maisy(10) Stella.

Image

The Stella sisters are a Canadian Country Music duo who really made a splash in the music industry when their cover of The Lumineers “Ho Hey” hit the top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in April last year! Personally I like their version better than the original. Before this the sisters were known for their cover of “Call Your Girlfriend”. I hadn’t seen them preform this song until after they had their top 40 hit and a huge role on ABC’s Nashville. “A Life That’s Good” was also a top 40 hit on the US Country Charts! You can find both of these songs available on Itunes for download.

Their newest song “Love” is really a great piece of work. I don’t feel that anyone could have done it better. If you haven’t heard it yet, go check it out here!

Are these girls the “Next Big Hit” in country music? I think so! I can’t wait to hear more from them!
